
Crew keeps playoff hopes alive with 3-0 win over New England

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006) - With just six games remaining on the year The Crew used a 3-0 home win over New England to keep its playoff hopes alive and pull within four points of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The top four teams in each conference make the MLS Cup Playoffs. Four teams are within five points of each other in the East, with The Crew at 26 points, New York in fifth with 29 points, Kansas City fourth with 30 points and New England in third with 31 points.
The Crew (6-12-8, 26 pts) faces second-place Chicago (9-8-8, 35 pts) on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. at Crew Stadium. Chicago downed New York 2-1 on Sunday.
Saturday's game time has been switched from 7:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. to allow Crew Stadium to remain open and host a viewing party for the Ohio State-Texas college football game that kicks off at 8 p.m.
The game can be heard in English on The Brew @ 105.7 or in Spanish on Radio Sol, AM-1550. Both the English and Spanish radio broadcasts can also be heard on-line at TheCrew.com.

The Crew announced that it has switched the game-time for its Sept. 9 home game vs. the Chicago Fire from 7:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (ET). The game-time switch will allow Crew Stadium to remain open and host a viewing party for the Ohio State-Texas college football game that kicks off at 8 p.m.
Ohio State is ranked No. 1 in both the preseason USA Today and Associated Press polls, while Texas is ranked No. 2 by USA Today and No. 3 by Associated Press. The game is a nationally televised game on ABC and will be shown on the Crew Stadium video board.
Former Ohio State football players will be in attendance and will sign autographs prior to the Crew game on The Crew Kicker Plaza.
Single-game tickets are on sale at the Crew Stadium Box Office, all Central Ohio Ticketmaster retail locations, via Ticketmaster phone at 614-431-3600 and on-line at TheCrew.com. Group tickets are also available. All ticket packages or plans are available through TheCrew.com and 614-447-CREW.
FORMER OHIO STATE FOOTBALL PLAYERS TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS PRIOR TO SEPT. 9 GAME
As part of the festivities for the Sept. 9 game that will include a viewing party of the Ohio State-Texas college football game, five former Ohio State football players will sign autographs in the Crew Kicker Plaza prior to The Crew's game. The former players that will be on hand include Dimitrious Stanley, Ahmed Plummer, Damon Moore, Maurice Hall and Gary Berry.
CREW RESERVES DOWN NEW ENGLAND RESERVES 3-1 ON SUNDAY
The Columbus Crew Reserves got two goals from Ryan Coiner and one from Knox Cameron to down the New England Revolution Reserves 3-1 on Sunday, Sept. 3, at The Crew's training facility in Obetz.
The Crew Reserves improved to 2-6-0 on the year after winning its second match in a row after starting out the year 0-6-0. The New England Reserves fell to 0-6-4.
Almost identical to Saturday night's game vs. the Revolution, The Crew scored early, as Coiner gave Columbus a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute. Marc Burch assisted on Coiner's goal.
Cameron then put the Black & Gold up 2-0 in the 31st minute, with Burch and Ivan Becerra assisting on the goal. Coiner added his second of the game in the 51st minute on a pass from Ritchie Kotschau.
New England got on the board in the 86th minute as Avery John drew a penalty kick. Khano Smith buried the penalty kick.
Noah Palmer (first half) and Andy Gruenebaum (second half) combined for the shutout for The Crew.
