New England Revolution II News Release
MATTHEWS, NC - New England Revolution II (5-2-4, 22 pts.) battled Crown Legacy FC (7-1-4, 27 pts.) to a 2-2 draw through 90 minutes of regulation before claiming the extra point with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory on Friday night at Sportsplex at Matthews.
Revolution II took the lead twice, with defender Jake Shannon and forward/winger Myles Morgan each finding the back of the net. However, Crown Legacy answered both tallies to force a 2-2 tie and send the match to penalties. Goalkeeper Donovan Parisian, who made two saves during regulation, added two more stops in the shootout to secure the extra point for New England.
Revolution II came out on the front foot and found the opening goal in the 15th minute. Off a set-piece opportunity, midfielder Carlos Zambrano floated a ball into the box, where Crown Legacy's attempted clearance fell short. The loose ball dropped to Shannon, who struck a bouncing left-footed finish into the back of the net for his second goal of the 2026 campaign.
The home side responded in the 30th minute, leveling the match at 1-1 with a goal off a corner kick. Two minutes later, Revolution II recaptured the lead through Morgan, who netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Midfielder Javaun Mussenden started the play, connecting with Zambrano inside the box, who chipped a pass to the far post, where Morgan met it first-time and volleyed the effort into the back of the net. Zambrano, a 21-year-old Venezuelan, recorded his third assist of the campaign.
Momentum shifted in Crown Legacy's favor early in the second half, as midfielder Allan Oyirworth was sent off with a red card in the opening minute of the frame. Playing with a man advantage, Crown Legacy pulled level again in the 76th minute, delivering a cross into the box that connected with the head of Andrew Johnson. His nodded effort slipped past a diving Parisian, tying the match at 2-2.
New England's lone chance of the second half came in the 51st minute off the foot of Morgan, but his effort was saved by CLFC goalkeeper Isaac Walker. Parisian, a 2025 first-round MLS SuperDraft pick, produced two key saves during regulation to keep the home side from taking the lead, helping send the match to a penalty shootout after the teams battled to a 2-2 draw. In the ensuing shootout, Parisian delivered again to seal the extra point, making two crucial stops to secure New England's 4-3 victory, its third shootout triumph of the season.
The backline of Jared Smith, Gabe Dahlin, and Shannon all logged a complete 90-minute shift, helping constrict the Eastern Conference's top-scoring side to just four shots on target. The defensive unit combined for 15 clearances and one blocked shot on the night.
New England is off next weekend before returning to action at FC Cincinnati 2 on Sunday, June 7. The 6:00 p.m. ET kickoff at NKU Soccer Stadium will be available to watch live on MLSNEXTPro.com and the OneFootball platform.
