New England Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution will have four players represent the Freedom Division at the 2009 Atlantic League All-Star Game, it was announced today by Atlantic League Executive Director Joe Klein. Tom Collaro has been voted in as the Freedom Division's starting designated hitter. Infielder Keoni DeRenne, and pitchers Corey Thurman and Jason Kershner have also been named to the team. The Freedom Division All-Star team will be managed by Revs skipper Chris Hoiles, who will have hitting and third base coach Sam Snider, first base coach Jeff Barkdoll, trainer Bob Burton, and Gladstone joining him on staff. The All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, June 23 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark, NJ, home of the Atlantic League's Newark Bears. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.

Collaro has been among league leaders in batting average all season long, hitting .317 through play on Wednesday night. He leads the Revolution with 57 hits, 10 doubles, six homeruns, and 32 RBI. Collaro began the season on a 10-game hitting streak, batting a league-best .457 to begin the 2009 campaign. He owns 17 multi-hit games, including two 4-hit games. Collaro enjoyed one of his best performances of the season in Tuesday night's victory, going 4-for-5 with a double, homer, and six RBI, which tied for third most in Revs history. The former Chicago White Sox prospect has spent parts of the last two seasons at Triple-A.

DeRenne is in his third season with the Revolution, and tops the club's all-time charts in several categories, including games played, runs, at-bats, hits, doubles, stolen bases, and walks. The Hawaii native is hitting .286 for the season with nine stolen bases, and has enjoyed hitting streaks of nine games, eight games, and seven games this season. The sure-handed DeRenne went 28 consecutive games without committing an error at one point, and his .983 fielding percentage leads all Atlantic League second basemen.

Thurman is just 2-3, but owns a 3.81 ERA in 11 starts. The right-hander was dominant during a five-start stretch from May 12 through June 1, posting a 1.82 ERA over that span. A York resident, the former Toronto Blue Jay is in his second season with the Revolution, and is the club's all-time leader in starts, quality starts, innings pitched, strikeouts, and pickoffs, while ranking second with 13 wins.

Kershner has gone 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA in 20 appearances out of the Revolution bullpen this season. The lefty began the season with a team-record 29.2-inning streak without issuing a walk, and has walked only one all season while striking out 19. He is currently on an 11.1-inning streak without allowing an earned run. The workhorse has gone multiple innings in 10 of his appearance, including four of his last five, and three or more innings in three separate outings. Kershner, a former major league reliever with the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays, retired 32 of 36 batters faced at one point this season, and 11-in-a-row during another stretch in May.

Hoiles was selected to manage the club after guiding York to the second half Freedom Division title last season. The Revs' 41-29 record was the best of any team in the league last season in either half, and it marked the Revolution's first ever playoff berth. Now in his third season as manager of the Revolution, Hoiles is a member of the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame, having spent his entire ten-year major league career as a catcher for the Orioles.
