Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN - C.J. Retherford drove in four runs to lead the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (11-7) to a 7-3 victory over the Saltdogs (8-10) in front of 2,182 fans at Haymarket Park Tuesday night. The second game of the schedule double-header was postponed due to impending severe weather.
After reigning Player of the Week Ian Gac employed a missile of a solo home run to center - his sixth - to tie the game at 1-1, the RedHawks responded with three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
The Saltdogs scratched back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, with a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly, to cut the deficit to 4-3.
But Fargo-Moorhead quickly answered back again with a Brandon Newton lead-off homer to right and a Retherford two-out, two-run double down the left field line to make it 7-3 in the sixth.
Zachary Varce (1-1) allowed the seven runs on 10 hits in six innings, striking out six and walking three to suffer the loss. Joe Harris (4-1) worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
The clubs will make up the rained out night cap by playing a double header Wednesday evening beginning at 5:05 p.m. Radio coverage of the two seven-inning games will begin on KFOR 1240 at 4:35 p.m.
