Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC co-founder Joe Wagoner announced earlier today that he is stepping away from his day-to-day role with the club to pursue new ventures.
"This is a positive development that has been in the works for many months," said Wagoner. "When we sold Republic FC to Kevin Nagle in May of 2017, the agreement was that I'd stay fully engaged until the end goal was imminent and new employees were settled. We are there. That means it's time to turn the page on my role in this story."
"Having the privilege of being an SRFC co-founder is an honor my family and I will treasure forever. Watching the evolution of this organization has been the thrill of a lifetime."
"Joe cemented himself in Sacramento soccer history as a visionary," said Kevin Nagle, Republic FC Chairman & CEO. "He is a true gentleman and a leader and we can't thank him enough for his contributions to this club and community."
"There is only one Joe Wagoner and the world (and especially Sacramento) is better for it," said Ben Gumpert, Republic FC President & COO. "He will always be a part of this club and this movement. Always. I can't wait to see him in the stands cheering on what he played a monumental role in creating."
Wagoner co-founded Republic FC in 2012 and helped lead the club to an inaugural season in 2014 where the club sold out every league home game en route to winning the USL Cup. His contributions helped spark an Indomitable movement in Sacramento that has put the city in contention for a Major League Soccer expansion spot.
