Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. - Orange County SC is proud to announce the signing of local mid-fielder Edson Alvarado.
Alvarado, 21, is a Southern California player from Whittier who joined the Tijuana Xolos at age 17 to play for their US Academy in San Diego. After playing for the Xolos U20 team, Alvarado made his debut for the Xolos first team in the Copa MX in 2018.
"Edson has more than earned his opportunity to sign with the first team and I am excited for him," said OCSC Head Coach, Braeden Cloutier. "Edson has been with us from day one this season and has trained very well. His work ethic is first class and he has been our best League 2 player this season."
Alvarado has been playing for OCSC's U23 League 2 team and will now join the first team on a professional contract as part of the OCSC pathway to professional soccer structure.
"Orange County SC is home to me and the professional training environment has made me a better player," said Alvarado. "I am thankful for this opportunity to be here at this great club and I am looking forward to contributing for the team."
"Edson is a versatile and talented player who has developed in our pathway to professional structure," said OCSC President of Soccer Operations, Oliver Wyss. "Edson is exactly the kind of player who benefits from being in our environment and continues to develop daily on and off the field."
Alvarado will be on the roster for the club's international friendly against his former team the Tijuana Xolos on June 27th at Championship Stadium inside the Great Park.
Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be released.
