Republic FC and WHOOP Partner to Maximize Player Performance During 2021 Season
March 23, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento, Calif. - As Republic FC continues to prepare for the 2021 USL Championship season set to begin in May, the Indomitable Club has partnered with WHOOP, the human performance company, to outfit every player with a wearable fitness tracker and personalized, actionable feedback to balance daily recovery, strain, and sleep via unparalleled physiological insights.
Republic FC utilizes WHOOP data daily, as an element of the club's sports data and performance program. Before each training session and match, the entire technical team examines player data from WHOOP and other platforms to help plan training sessions, actively manage player recovery, prevent injuries, and optimize performances for matches. The data provides day-to-day insights for the players and coaching staff, as well as longer term analysis that can help create better baselines and performance goals.
To help fans focus on their health and wellness while sharing in the same experience as the pros, Republic FC is giving away a WHOOP Strap 3.0 and membership for 24/7 performance optimization. For additional details and to enter visit SacRepublicFC.com/whoop before April 3rd. Republic FC fans can take advantage of a special team offer and receive $30 off any new WHOOP membership.
WHOOP captures heart rate data every single second and continuously monitors cardiovascular load so members know how much stress they are putting on their bodies. Members are able to track numerous lifestyle choices ranging from hydration and nutrition to sleep habits and activities to better understand their impact on overall well-being while promoting positive behavior change. The wearable technology uses proprietary algorithms to calculate daily recovery based on key biometrics such as heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, and respiratory rate.
"Training fitness and skill is incredibly important, but sleep, rest and off-the-field factors are essential data points in understanding how to optimize player performance and health," said Republic FC Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Rayfield. "With WHOOP, we're able to help examine how strenuous training sessions are and support player recovery to be at peak condition for game day throughout the course of the season."
"Republic FC is taking an advanced approach when it comes to working with players to unlock its players full potential and achieve peak performance," said Ronan Jones, Elite Performance Manager, WHOOP. "We're excited to support Republic FC as the team takes its wellness efforts to a new level and prepares for another successful season."
"Adding WHOOP to our performance toolkit helps us personalize player development, training and recovery to new levels," said Republic FC Head Athletic Trainer Betty Olmedo. "Having a resource that can show recovery, rest, and strain helps our entire team understand what it takes to get to match day at their best."
Republic FC's 2021 preseason is underway. The team has opened training camp and is preparing for upcoming closed-door scrimmages and friendlies. In the coming weeks, the club will announce the 2021 USL Championship season schedule. Team leadership is actively working with public health officials to enact a plan to safely welcome fans for games. Republic FC Members will have priority access to attend matches with limited seating capacity. New members can join the club in advance of the 2021 season and receive the full slate of club benefits.
