Sacramento Republic FC News Release
As Republic FC prepares for its 10th season of soccer in Sacramento, the Indomitable Club is calling on fans and community champions to join in its annual week of service to the region. Beginning on Monday, March 13, the Indomitable Club will participate in a daily volunteer project leading up to the club's home opener on Saturday, March 18. With members of the club's front office, players, and coaching staff - as well as side-by-side with fans, the team will complete over 150 hours of community service throughout the week.
The annual week of service before the first home match continues to club's commitment to serve as a unifying force in the community, while reflecting the indomitable spirit of the region. As a thank you for serving the region, any participant who volunteers alongside Republic FC staff and players will receive two free tickets to the club's home opener on March 18th, as well as a team swag bag. Fans can sign-up for a shift at SacRepublicFC.com/Community.
"Our 10th season is an exciting time for us to celebrate everything that has made this club what it is, and since day one, the club's identity has been rooted in its commitment to the community," said Republic FC Chairman and CEO Kevin Nagle. "We are proud to serve this unique and diverse community, and are thrilled to have our fans join us in giving back for our upcoming week of service."
Schedule of events:
Monday, March 13 - Wellspring Women's Center / preparing hygiene kits
Tuesday, March 14 - Ronald McDonald House / facility upkeep
Wednesday, March 15 - St. John's Real Program for Change / facility refurbishment
Thursday, March 16 - New Roots Farm / Public gardening to support regional refugees
Friday, March 17 - Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services / sorting and packing food resources for local distribution
The week will kick off on March 13 when volunteers head to Wellspring Women's Center in Oak Park. The group will prepare over 250 hygiene and care packages for women experiencing homelessness. For over 30 years, the facility has provided drop-in care and social services for women and children.
On Tuesday, March 14 the club will support the Ronald McDonald House, located right next to UC Davis Medical Center. The center provides services to support children and their families receiving medical care - including lodging and meal assistance. Volunteers will spend the afternoon preparing packages for pediatric patients and participating in an "odd job work party" to provide minor maintenance and repairs around the facility.
In honor of Women's History Month, a group of volunteers will head out to Saint John's Program for Real Change on Wednesday, March 15 for an afternoon of painting. The program provides shelter and resources for women and children struggling with homelessness and other challenges such as poverty, substance use disorder, mental health, violence and abuse - and works to help them build successful new lives.
Thursday, March 16 is all about agriculture and food security as the club teams up with New Roots farm in West Sacramento. Overseen by International Rescue Committee, the farm works to increase refugee access to and participation in the local food system through agricultural training, food access and security programming, community farming, and business development training. For the afternoon of service, volunteers will help with weeding, harvesting, and other gardening needs.
The week will wrap up at the Sacramento Food Bank in North Sacramento on Friday, March 17. Volunteers will spend the afternoon sorting and packaging fresh produce and non-perishable items for distribution. The food bank is the largest nonprofit provider of basic human needs in Sacramento County, distributing 2.9 millions pound of food each month and many other social services including immigration legal assistance, utilities assistance, and refugee resettlement aid.
Sign-ups for volunteer shifts are open now at SacRepublicFC.com/Community and opportunities are open to the public. Volunteers must be at least 18 years or older, with the exception of Friday's shift at the Sacramento Food Bank (see here for volunteer requirements). Projects may be adjusted due to inclement weather. Work supplies and equipment will be provided by the club.
Throughout the season, Republic FC will work to create additional opportunities for fans and the public to join in community initiatives.
Republic FC's 10th USL Championship campaign will kick off on the road on Saturday, March 11, when the squad travels to Texas to take on El Paso Locomotive. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Antenna TV 40.2. The club returns to Sacramento on March 18 for the 2023 home opener at Heart Health Park, hosting Eastern Conference opponent Charleston Battery for the first time since 2014. The match will mark the first FOX40 broadcast for the season. Tickets are available now at SacRepublicFC.com/Tickets and all matches will be streaming on FOX40.com and the FOX40 mobile app.
