Reno's first hit against Rowland-Smith landed over the wall in left field to give the Aces a 1-0 lead in the first. The Aces' offense would not get another base knock until a Tyler Bortnick double in the fifth.
Dave Sappelt collected the Cubs first hit off Skaggs in the fifth inning with a one-out double off the wall in left. Rowland-Smith helped is own cause with an infield single to lead off the sixth for Iowa's second hit. Alfredo Amezaga took first on a hit by pitch before Jim Adduci loaded the bases with an infield single. Greg Rohan skyed a fly ball to the warning track in left to plate Rowland-Smith and knot the score at one.
