Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers fell, 4-2, in the finale of their four-game series with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Wednesday afternoon. Jake Odorizzi put forth a solid effort in his seven innings on the hill and allowed two runs over four hits. Adam Moore and David Lough combined for all of the offense as they each drove in a run. With the loss, Omaha's magic number to clinch their second-consecutive division crown is stuck at 12 games.

Colorado Springs (63-56) grabbed a 1-0 lead after the Sky Sox' Tommy Field connected for a solo shot off of Odorizzi. The Storm Chasers (69-50) tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first after Wil Myers doubled and came home two batters later on a single by Moore.

The Sox grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth when the visitors slugged another solo shot off of Odorizzi, this time by Chad Tracy.

Undaunted, Omaha knotted the game again in the bottom of the sixth when Lough hit a solo bomb on the first pitch of the at-bat.

Odorizzi made it through the seventh without allowing a run while Tommy Hottovy worked a scoreless eighth to keep the contest deadlocked at 2-2. Roman Colon (3-2) was inserted in to the game to pitch the eighth and promptly gave up a double to Andrew Brown. The runner advanced to third after Colon misfired and threw a wild pitch to the next batter, Brendan Harris. Harris worked a walk while the next batter struck out. Colon intentionally walked Hernan Iribarren to load the bases but the move backfired as a Chad Tracy single to left scored one to put Colorado Springs ahead, 3-2. Righty Vin Mazzaro was then called upon to replace Colon and struck out the first hitter he faced. It was not all smooth sailing for Mazzaro however, as he threw a wild pitch to the next batter that scored the runner on third. Both runs, as well as the loss, were attributed to Colon.

The Storm Chasers threatened in the ninth when Christian Colon collected his first Triple-A hit, a one out single, and moved to second on a Mitch Maier groundout. Derrick Robinson singled to place runners on first and third but Falu grounded out to end the game.

Following a day off on Thursday, Omaha will hit the road for eight games against the Tucson Padres, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, and the Las Vegas 51's, the Triple-A club of the Toronto Blue Jays. Friday's contest against the Padres is slated for a 9:05 first pitch and can be heard locally on 1180 The Zone 2 - The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
