TACOMA, Wash. -- A late error led to big trouble in the Tacoma Rainiers 2-0 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

After seven scoreless innings, Jeff Dominguez singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. One batter later, Rainiers shortstop Carlos Triunfel committed a throwing error on a force out attempt at second that advanced Dominguez to third and moved the batter Shawn Bowman to second.

New Orleans shortstop Gil Velasquez bunted in Dominguez for the go-ahead run on a suicide squeeze one out later to give the Zephyrs what proved to be an insurmountable 1-0 lead.

The infielder Dominguez drove in an insurance run in the ninth with a two-out double to left field that plated catcher Rob Brantly.

Tacoma was held to eight hits in the outing, with outfielder Carlos Peguero's 3-for-3 effort leading the lineup. Infielders Carlos Triunfel and Vinnie Catricala accounted for the Rainiers only extra-base hits after each turned in doubles.

Right-handed reliever David Pauley (3-2) was dealt a tough-luck loss for Tacoma. Pauley held the Zephyrs to two runs - only one earned - on five hits over 4.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.

Starter Andrew Carraway tossed 5.0 shutout frames, surrendering three hits and striking out five without issuing a walk.

The Rainiers (50-68) host the final game of the club's four-game series with the Zephyrs (63-55) at 11:35 a.m. tomorrow, August 8. Right-hander Hector Noesi (0-3, 8.17) is scheduled to get the start for Tacoma in the finale against left-hander Brad Hand (8-5, 3.66) for New Orleans.
