Reno Aces News Release

Today's Game: The Reno Aces and Fresno Grizzlies return to Greater Nevada Field for the second game of the 2018 season with right-handers Taylor Clarke and Trent Thorton scheduled to take the mound.

Shipley, Nevada's own: Reno Aces RHP Braden Shipley was the WAC Pitcher of the Year in 2012 and co-Pitcher of the Year in 2013 while with the Wolf Pack. Last night, Shipley became the third Aces player in history to start on Opening Day multiple times (Kevin Mulvey - 2010/11, Randall Delgado - 2013/15, Braden Shipley - 2017/18). Shipley is now in fourth place on the Aces All-Time wins list with 16. Barry Enright (17), Zach Kroenke (23), and Charles Brewer (24) are the only Aces with more.

Battle Born: The Aces boast a 5-1 record on Opening Day when they start in Northern Nevada, outscoring opponents 40-17.

Return of the MVP: Christian Walker returned to Reno after capturing the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player award in 2017. The Norristown, PA native launched a franchise-record 32 regular season home runs, drove in 114 and hit .309 in 133 games played. Walker earned a September call up and was featured on the D-backs playoff roster. Last night, Walker belted his first home run of the 2018 campaign in his second AB.

Overcoming Obstacles: Aces right-hander Taylor Clarke has overcame numerous obstacles throughout his career. In a recent article with MiLB.com, the D-backs' number seven prospect said dealing with right-side facial paralysis since birth, a weakness of the muscles that can cause some of his speech to be slurred, "has never been an issue. Tommy John surgery in 2013 while at Towson University added to his uncertain future. Now, Clarke has been tabbed as the prospect most likely to make an impact on the D-backs in 2018.

Good Parenting: The Arizona Diamondbacks have gotten off to a hot start in 2018, posting a 6-1 record behind former Aces Zack Godley, Archie Brad-ley and Chris Owings. Owings, the 2013 Pacific Coast League MVP, enters tonight's ballgame batting .429 through seven games (9-for-21).
