April 6, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees offense struck early and struck often in 8-3 Opening Night victory over the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes at Smith's Ballpark.
The Isotopes jumped out to an early lead on a solo home run in the top of first but the Bees quickly responded as Michael Hermosillo singled, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch. Salt Lake would jump out in front and not look back in the second inning as Jose Briceno, Ben Revere and Jose Miguel Fernandez would all collect RBIs, Briceno would also score on a wild pitch in a four-run second. Salt Lake would score two more in the third, another in the sixth and to make up their final total.
"I thought the guys did a good job of making pitches when they had to," said Manager Keith Johnson. "Offensively our guys swung the bats really well. We ran the bases really well. It was good team win."
The offense was led by Jabari Blash who finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored including the first Bees homer of the year on a laser over the left field wall. Catcher Jose Briceno also finished with a three hit game driving in two runs. In total the bottom third of the Bees lineup finished with six RBIs on the night. Lefty John Lamb got the start giving up two runs over two and two-thirds innings. Ian Kroll was given the win after one and a third scoreless. The Bees bullpen gave up a single run over six and one-third innings, led by two scoreless frames from former BYU Cougar Taylor Cole.
The Bees and Isotopes continue their five-game series tomorrow night at Smith's Ballpark with first pitch coming at 6:35 p.m. All Friday night games include a free postgame kids run for kids 12-and-under.
