Reno Aces Game Notes vs. Tacoma

July 18, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

Today's Game: The Aces look to ride the momentum following a come-from-behind victory on Tuesday night. Reno will send right-hander Jake Buchanan to the mound to square off against Tacoma righty Christian Bergman. Cesar Puello is batting .370 over his last 10 games and has a four-game hit streak with two three-hit performances.

Last Game: Kevin Cron led the change in Reno's come-from-behind victory in game two of the four-game set. In the bottom of the 8th inning, Socrates Brito hit a two-run single to cut Tacoma's lead down to one. With two outs and runners on first and third, Kevin Cron delivered the game-winner with a line-drive double into the left-center field gap to give the Aces a 10-9 advantage. Jake Barrett came on in the top of the 9th inning and picked up his third save of the season. The win improves the Aces record to 47-49 on the season and 8-2 over their last 10 games. Cesar Puello set the tone offensively, turning in a 3-for-3 night, a triple short of the cycle. Southpaw Anthony Vasquez went five innings and allowed just two runs on six hits.

Hasta la vista, baby: Anthony Recker hit his 11th home run of the season last night in the bottom of the second inning. Recker has hit 149 home runs in professional baseball. His 11 this year is the most he's had with a single season since 2011 with the Sacramento River Cats (16). That season, Recker hit .302 against the Aces in 12 games with five doubles and one home run. If he had enough at-bats to qualify, Recker would lead the Pacific Coast League in HR/AB 1/7.28. Kevin Cron leads the PCL in HR/AB with 1/13.82.

I'll Be Back: Barry Enright made his first appearance in an Aces uniform last night. His Aces outing came on July 20th, 2012 (2,188 days ago). Enright has played the last two seasons with Tigres de Quintana Roo, also known as the Mexico Tigers, a Triple-A Minor League Baseball team located in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Enright is 4th in Aces franchise history with 17 wins. The only active Aces player with more wins is Braden Shipley who has 19.

Pain can be controlled - you just disconnect it: After being hit by a pitch on Monday night, Ildemaro Vargas was removed from the game and tested for a concussion. He was diagnosed with a head contusion and is rechecked daily. Yesterday, before the game, he hit in the batting cage and did some conditioning on a stationary bike.

Move it, Reese! On your feet soldier: Cesar Puello swiped his sixth stolen base of the season last night. As a team, the Aces have not stolen many bases (53). The Colorado Springs Sky Sox lead the League with 124. Socrates Brito leads Reno with 11 stolen bases this season.

He said there's a storm coming in: Cesar Puello and Rey Fuentes hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning last night. They are the 7th Aces duo to hit back-to-back jacks this season. The last duo was Socrates Brito/Steven Souza Jr. on 7/3 in Tacoma. Additionally, back-to-back home runs by Houston's George Springer and Alex Bregman in the 10th inning capped a wild Major League All-Star game in Washington, won 8-6 by the visiting American League.

You are terminated: Braden Shipley struck out two Rainiers last night in two innings of work. He now has 192 strikeouts in an Aces uniform, third-most in franchise history. The only two players with more are Charles Brewer (307) and Zach Kroenke (201).
