Round Rock Express News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The Round Rock Express (44-51) came up just short in an 11-10 slugfest with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (53-41) on Tuesday night at Security Service Field. Colorado Springs captured the win in dramatic fashion when CF Tyrone Taylor punched a walkoff single to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Both teams combined for 33 hits and 16 walks in the contest, with the Express bats reaching base a total of 25 times on 14 hits and 11 walks. Each member of the Round Rock lineup reached base at least once, with a total of eight hitters climbing aboard twice or more.
As the seventh pitcher to take the mound for the Sky Sox, RHP Tim Dillard (2-1, 7.67) picked up his second win in as many nights after he tossed a scoreless frame in the top of the ninth. Express reliever RHP Chris Jensen (1-1, 5.35) suffered the loss after allowing the walkoff run in the bottom of the ninth.
Round Rock had a great opportunity to snag a late lead in the top of the ninth when Dillard issued three straight walks to load the bases with two outs. After working the count full, Express DH Carlos Perez lofted a fly ball to right field that was run down for out number three by RF Domingo Santana.
At the plate, Santana led the charge for Colorado Springs by blasting a pair of home runs in the fourth and sixth, racking up a total of four RBI out of the cleanup spot. Both of Santana's round-trippers came in clutch situations, either giving his team the lead or bringing the score to a tie.
Amid the back and forth affair, Round Rock LF Willie Calhoun punched his PCL-leading, 28th double of the season. With a 2-5 outing at the plate in tonight's game, Calhoun raised his slugging percentage to .440, his highest mark of the season.
E-Train C Juan Centeno collected his second three-hit game of the season after lacing a trio of singles over five at-bats on Tuesday night, while 1B Hanser Alberto drove home the most runs of any Round Rock hitter on the night out of the nine-hole with three RBI on two base hits.
Game three of the series will take place on Wednesday night at Security Service Field. Express LHP Michael Roth (4-3, 4.44) is scheduled to get the start on the mound against Sky Sox RHP Aaron Brooks (6-3, 3.86). First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. CDT.
