Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, Ill. (October 21, 2003) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that All-Star and 42-goal scorer Tyler Rennette has been returned to the team by the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL). Defenseman Joe Vandermeer, on a two-way contract with the team's AHL affiliate – the Worcester IceCats, has been reassigned, while goaltender Levente Szuper will rejoin the Rivermen.

Rennette – who spent training camp with the Griffins – appeared in two games for Grand Rapids over the weekend without any points. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound center tallied 74 points (42g, 32a) and was +30 during the 2002-2003 with the Rivermen. The 24-year-old native of North Bay, Ontario tied for second in the ECHL in goal scoring in 2002-2003 with Mississippi's Steffon Walby, setting a new Rivermen ECHL record for goals.

Rennette is the first 40-goal scorer the Rivermen have had since the 1991-1992 International Hockey League (IHL) season, when Steve Tuttle netted 43 and Yves Heroux tallied 41.

Vandermeer has two assists in two games for the Rivermen this season with a -1 plus/minus. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound defenseman from Caroline, Alberta has spent two games at the AHL level previous to this reassignment, playing one game for the Kentucky Thoroughblades in 1999-2000 and in 2000-2001.

Szuper – a 5-foot-11, 175-pound native of Budapest, Hungary – played nearly 39 minutes for Worcester in one game this season, stopping 12 of 16 shots.
