Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades exploded for a 13-2 victory over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium.

The Renegades took the lead in the bottom of the second, when Aaron Palensky grounded into a fielder's choice and a throwing error allowed T.J. Rumfield to score. Two batters later, Kyle Battle scored Palensky with a single to left to open a 2-0 lead. Hudson Valley tacked on two more against Marcano in the third to take a 4-0 advantage.

That was all the support Blane Abeyta needed, rebounding from a rough outing last Sunday to not allow an earned run in 4.2 innings on Friday. He surrendered two unearned runs, one in the fourth and one in the fifth before exiting. The right-hander has allowed two-or-fewer earned runs in 10 of his last 11 appearances.

Leading 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Gades erupted for five runs to blow the game open. Anthony Seigler and Rumfield drew bases-loaded walks to drive in runs before Grant Richardson ripped a three-run triple down the right field line to grow the lead to 10-2.

Hudson Valley added one more in the seventh on a Jasson Dominguez sac fly and two more in the eighth to go up 13-2.

Three relievers out of the Renegades bullpen combined for 4.1 shutout innings, with Carlos Gomez (2-3), Wellington Diaz and Enrique Santana working through traffic on the bases to close out the win.

Four Renegades batters, Dominguez, Richardson, Aaron Palensky and Ben Cowles all had two hits, while Richardson was joined by Rumfield and Seigler with multi-RBI games. Cowles finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored, three walks and an RBI.

With a win by the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday, the Renegades maintained their 0.5-game lead in the SAL North with seven games to play.

POSTGAME NOTE: Tyler Hardman had a sac fly for his 78th RBI of the season, moving him four shy of tying the Hudson Valley career franchise record... The Renegades magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to seven with seven to play.

The Renegades finish their series with the BlueClaws on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Hudson Valley sends RHP Juan Carela (1-2, 8.38 ERA) to the bump, while Jersey Shore counters with RHP Dominic Pipkin (2-7, 5.74 ERA).
