Renegades Fall to Cyclones 7-4

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped the series opener to the Brooklyn Cyclones 7-4 on Tuesday night at Heritage Financial Park.

New York Yankees' No. 3 prospect Spencer Jones opened up the scoring in the first inning with a solo blast to right field off Cameron Foster, his 11th home run of the season. The blast was Jones' fourth leadoff home run of the year.

Brooklyn answered right back against Tyrone Yulie with a pair of two-run home runs in the second from Mateo Gil and Rhylan Thomas to hand the Cyclones a 4-1 advantage. It was a lead that Brooklyn never relinquished.

The Renegades deficit ballooned to six after the Cyclones scored three more runs off Yulie (4-6) in the fourth. Brooklyn collected three doubles in the inning, including a pair of run scoring hits from César Berbesi and Kevin Parada. Berbesi came home to score after he stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error from Agustin Ramírez.

Hudson Valley responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 7-4. Alexander Vargas started the rally with a one out triple off Foster (4-4). Spencer Henson then singled Vargas home and advanced to second on a throwing error from Stanley Consuegra. Grant Richardson tallied the second triple of the inning and scored on another Cyclones throwing error to complete the game's scoring.

Paul Gervase retired the Renegades lineup in order in the ninth to collect his fourth save of the season.

After Yulie departed, the 'Gades bullpen combined to throw four scoreless innings. Joel Valdez made his first relief appearance of the season, tossing a scoreless 1.2 frames while Harrison Cohen followed and struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings. Carlos Gómez hurled a scoreless ninth. The Renegades and Cyclones continue their six-game series on Wednesday morning at Heritage Financial Park. First pitch is slated for 11:05 a.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 10:45 a.m. Hudson Valley will send RHP Brendan Beck (0-0, 0.00) to the mound opposite of RHP Robert Colina (2-2, 3.58) for the Cyclones.
