Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Lakewood, N.J. - The Hudson Valley Renegades came from behind to defeat the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 6-2 on Saturday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. The win extended the Renegades season-best winning streak to seven games.
The Renegades were propelled to victory by a four-run rally in the top of the eighth. Tyler Hardman gave Hudson Valley a 2-1 lead with an RBI single, Aldenis Sanchez lined a two-run double down the right field line, and Carlos Narvaez plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the inning.
Yoendrys Gómez got the start for the Renegades, allowing one run on two hits in 3.0 innings, striking out three and walking one in his fourth start of the year with Hudson Valley.
Gómez left in line for the loss as Jersey Shore held the Gades without a run until the sixth. Everson Pereira led off that inning with a single and advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw from Erubiel Armenta. Three batters later, James Nelson blooped a double into right to score Pereira and even the score at 1-1.
Blane Abeyta (2-6) turned in 4.0 scoreless innings of relief, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out two. In the series, Abeyta has thrown 10.0 scoreless innings against the BlueClaws, shaving over a run off his season ERA.
In the top of the ninth, Hardman singled and scored on an Eric Wagaman double to extend the lead to 6-1. Hardman finished 2-for-4 in the game, and was one of three Renegades with two hits, joined by Pereira and Nelson.
Edgar Barclay worked around a leadoff single in the eighth, but ran into trouble in the ninth, allowing a two-out RBI single to Freylin Minyety to close the gap to 6-2. However, Nelvin Correa came in to strike out Casey Martin with runners on first and second for the final out and earn his second save of the season.
The Renegades are now a season-best six games over .500 overall.
