Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

BROOKLYN, NY - The Cyclones fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 7-5 on Saturday evening on Coney Island. Dominic Hamel made his Cyclones debut, striking out seven over 4.0 innings on the mound but did not factor in the decision.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first when Nic Gaddis had an RBI single that scored Stanley Consuerga. Moments later an errant pick-off throw to first allowed Alex Ramirez to score from third with the second run of the game and one pitch later Jose Peroza laced an RBI single to make it 3-0.

But after the early offense the Cyclones bats sputtered, while the IronBirds got rolling. In the top of the third, an RBI double from Collin Burns made it 3-1 and Darell Hernaiz had a sac fly to push another run across.

In the fourth Ramon Rodriguez had an RBI single that knotted the game, and in the fifth, a throwing error on a stolen base attempt gave the 'Birds the lead at 4-3.

But the big blow of the game came in the top of the sixth when Ramon Rodriguez connected on an 0-1 offering and sent it deep over the left-field wall for a two-run shot to push the Aberdeen lead to 6-3. The IronBirds catcher added his fourth RBI of the game on a fielder's choice in the eighth that pushed the score to 7-3.

Joe Suozzi gave Brooklyn some late-inning life with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to trim the deficit to 7-5 but the Cyclones would get no closer as Xavier Moore pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the Aberdeen victory.

Dan Hammer (2-1) got the win for Aberdeen, tossing 5.0 shutout innings of relief, walking two and striking out seven.
