Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Andrew Painter threw three perfect innings on Saturday in his ShoreTown Ballpark debut but Hudson Valley scored four times in the eighth inning and topped the BlueClaws 6-2 on Saturday night in Lakewood.

The Renegades (9-5/43-37) have won the first five games of the series from Jersey Shore (2-11/27-52). The BlueClaws have dropped 16 of 19, six in a row, and all five in this series.

Painter, the Phillies first-round pick last year, made his third appearance with the BlueClaws, and first in Lakewood. He struck out four over three perfect innings, two in the first, one in the second, and one in the third.

Hudson Valley, however, tied the game on an RBI double by James Nelson in the sixth inning off Erubiel Armenta.

The Renegades then blew the game open in the eighth off Jonathan Hughes. Cooper Bowman was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After Everson Pereira singled, Tyler Hardman singled home the go-ahead run. Three batters later, Aldenis Sanchez doubled in two more for a 4-1 lead. A SAC fly from Carlos Narvaez made it 5-1.

Jonathan Hughes (0-2) was charged with all four eighth inning runs while recording one out and he took the loss.

Hudson Valley starter Yoendrys Gomez gave up one run in three innings. Blane Abeyta (2-6), who threw six scoreless innings on Monday, threw four more tonight and earned his second win of the season.

The teams continue their series on Sunday at 1:05 pm. RHP Ben Brown starts for Jersey Shore.
