Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Springfield Cardinals will honor hundreds of cancer survivors in a pre-game ceremony at Hammons Field on Wednesday, June 14. This special group is part of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, a nationwide community-based event aimed at raising money to help prevent cancer and save lives.

Approximately 700 Relay For Life members and volunteers will be on hand June 14 in an effort to raise the funds needed to help find a cure for cancer. Prior to the Cardinals game, hundreds of cancer survivors will take a victory lap around the warning track of Hammons Field to signify the progress that has been made in improving cancer survival rates and the quality of life following cancer treatment. All cancer survivors in attendance are welcome to partake in this victory parade around the field.

Relay For Life is a celebration of cancer survivorship, honoring the lives of hundreds of local residents who have survived cancer, while offering the hope of finding a cure. Relay For Life is the signature activity of the American Cancer Society, a voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.
