Reiter Earns First AHL Win in 3-2 Bridgeport Victory

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 10, 2013) - Kenny Reiter made 28 saves Sunday afternoon to earn his first career American Hockey League win, as the Sound Tigers defeated the Adirondack Phantoms, 3-2. Anders Lee scored a pair of goals, which were sandwiched around a Riley Wetmore marker in the third period. The Sound Tigers trailed 2-0 in the second and 2-1 going into the third, but Wetmore and Lee scored just four minutes apart early in the third to help lead the Sound Tigers to the win.
It looked as if neither team would score in the first period, but a goal with less than a minute to play in the opening 20 minutes gave the Phantoms a 1-0 lead. After the Sound Tigers killed off their third penalty of the period, Cullen Eddy tossed a shot on net from the point. Reiter made a save, but his defense was unable to clear out he rebound. In the ensuing scramble, Marcel Noebels was there to power it home for the opening goal of the game.
After what looked to be an Adirondack power-play goal was disallowed, the Phantoms broke through for a second goal. With the Sound Tigers on the power play, Dallas Jackson mishandled a puck at the point, allowing Chris Vandevelde to streak in on a breakaway to beat Reiter. The goal came at 5:11 of the second period, but the Pittsburgh, PA native would not be beaten again.
The Sound Tigers began to claw their way back a little later in the second period, with Lee's first of the game. Lee took a great feed from Ryan Strome, then made his way from near post to far post and sent a backhander past Cal Heeter to cut the lead to 2-1.
Early in the third period, the Sound Tigers struck again to tie the score. Wetmore took a pass in the high slot from Alan Quine and rifled it off the left post and in for his second goal of the season.
Lee's second goal of the game turned out to be game-winner and came on one of the stranger plays the Sound Tigers have seen this season. Lee took a shot from the sideboards that appeared to handcuff Heeter, as the puck popped straight up in the air. Heeter did his best to try to bat it behind his net, but in doing so, knocked it over his shoulder and into the net to give the Sound Tigers a 3-2 lead.
In all, the Sound Tigers were a perfect 9-for-9 on the penalty kill. Adirondack outshot the Sound Tigers, 30-20, though the difference was not enough to prevent the Sound Tigers from picking up two points. They now have points in their last four games, posting a 3-0-0-1 record in that time
The Sound Tigers will be back in action Monday afternoon at Times Union Center in Albany. They'll return to Webster Bank Arena on Saturday, Nov. 16 to faceoff against the Hartford Wolfpack.
