Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators completed a perfect 3-0 weekend with a 5-4 shoot-out victory over their East Division rival the Hershey Bears. Jean-Gabriel Pageau led Binghamton with two goals and an assist, Andrew Hammond turned in a 41 save performance and Matt Puempel buried the game winner in the shootout to send the Sens back home with six of six possible points from this weekend's contests.
Hershey was able to draw first blood with Peter LaBlanc riffling a shot directly off a faceoff deep in the Senators zone which beat Hammond. Despite being outshot 23-11 in the period Binghamton was able to draw the score even 1-1 when Cole Schneider was able to dish the puck to a streaking Mike Hoffman. Hoffman centered a great feed to Jean-Gabriel Pageau who beat Philipp Grubauer at the 12:33 mark of the period. Hammond managed 21 saves on 22 shots faced in the opening period.
Binghamton began the second period scoring at 4:52 with Mark Stone finding Pageau open in front of the crease where he buried the shot to give the visitors their fist lead of the game. Just under nine minutes later Darren Kramer pushed a rebound opportunity from David Dziurzynski past Grubauer to increase the Sens lead to 3-1. Following a scrum among players on the ice in which Chris Wideman received a five minute major with under 10 seconds remaining in the period, Hershey's Jeff Taffe beat Hammond with less than one second remaining, pushing the score to 3-2 Binghamton heading to the locker room.
The B-Sens were able to extend their lead to 4-2 at 4:12 into the third period as Buddy Robinson scored Binghamton's league leading sixth shorthanded goal of the season. However regulation would end with Casey Wellman and John Mitchell notching goals for the hosts respectively, tying the game at four apiece and sending the contest into overtime.
After an uneventful overtime for each team, a shootout was needed to determine the outcome. Stephane Da Costa, fresh off a five point performance the evening prior, notched a first round shootout goal before Puempel sealed the victory with his fourth round tally. With the win Binghamton moved to a record of 9-4-0-0 and a share of second place in the East Division with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Binghamton will return to action next weekend with two home games. Friday, November 15 the B-Sens will host Adirondack before welcoming Rochester on Saturday back to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena-both games are set for a 7:05 p.m. matchup. Tickets for both games are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
