Providence, R.I. - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-0 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday afternoon. Alexander Khokhlachev scored twice, while Jared Knight, Matt Fraser, Tommy Cross and Justin Florek each had a goal. Malcolm Subban and Niklas Svedberg combined for the 17 save shutout.
The P-Bruins got off to a great start in the first period with many quality scoring chances. At the 3:42 mark, Anthony Camara let go a hard wrist shot that rebounded out to defensemen David Warsofsky. His shot was then redirected by the stick of Knight into the net, for his third goal of the season. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Providence came out to another lightning start in the second period when Joe Morrow fed a slick pass to Fraser who scored his 11th goal of the season only 21 seconds into the period. Kevan Miller recorded the second assist. Providence continued to battle and struck again when Matt Lindblad and Cross tried jamming the puck past Hartford net minder Jason Missiaen on the glove side. Cross picked up the loose puck and slid it around the back of the net before scoring a backdoor goal to give the P-Bruins a 3-0 lead at the 9:43 mark. It was Cross' first goal of the season and Carter Camper grabbed the second assist. The scoring continued at the 10:30 mark when Khokhlachev scored his third goal of the season, picking up a loose puck in the center of Hartford's defensive zone. Khokhlachev scored off a wrist shot for the 4-0 lead. Knight and Morrow picked up the assists. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring in the period at the 16:32 mark when Florek netted his third goal of the season. Knight and Khokhlachev grabbed the assists as the P-Bruins took a 5-0 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period, the intensity picked up. After a series of penalties were handed out for a confrontation between the two teams, Subban and Wolf Pack goaltender Scott Stajcer skated to center ice and fought, resulting in both goaltenders getting ejected from the game. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with a power play goal at the 7:12 mark when Khokhlachev netted his second of the game and fourth of the season. Camper had the lone assist as the P-Bruins went on to win 6-0, their second victory of the weekend against the Wolf Pack.
Subban stopped all 14 shots he faced and Svedberg stopped all three shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Missiaen made 27 saves and Stajcer made three saves for the Wolf Pack. Providence finished 1-for-11 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05pm against the Norfolk Admirals. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Squad Locker. For tickets to this game or any other P-Bruins home games visit www.providencebruins.com .
