Reiter Backstops River Otters To Victory Over Rockford

January 2, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Backed by Kevin ReiterÂ’s 38-save performance, the Missouri River Otters dealt the Rockford IceHogs a 2-1 shootout defeat Sunday afternoon at the MetroCentre.

In a hard-fought, tight-checking first period, neither the River Otters nor the IceHogs could dent the twine, and the game went scoreless into the second period.

The River Otters continued to get great goaltending in the second period from Reiter, and they were finally able to take the lead. With eight minutes remaining in the period, IceHogs goaltender Michel Robinson made a save on a Mat Snesrud shot from the point, but Chris Bell picked up the rebound and flipped it top-shelf for his eighth goal of the season.

The IceHogs tied the game midway through the final period while the Otters were on the power play. J.F. Dufour sprung J.C. Ruid on a breakaway, and the IceHogs centerman buried a backhander behind Reiter to tie the game at one.

In the shootout, Cole Bassett and Charlie Blyth scored for the Otters, while only Vince Malts could capitalize for Rockford. Reiter made 38 saves for his tenth win of the season, while Robinson made 29 saves in defeat.

The Otters host the Kalamazoo Wings Wednesday night at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the River Otters B2 Webcast, which can be found at the River Otters website!
