The K-Wings commence the 2005 portion of their schedule this afternoon with a battle against their arch-rivals the Fort Wayne Komets. Despite being just one and half hours apart from one another, today's game is just the second meeting of the season between the teams. Fort Wayne won the first meeting 5-2 at Wings Stadium back on November 24th.
Kalamazoo rang in the New Year with a come from behind victory over the Kansas City Outlaws. The K-Wings have momentum heading into 2005, as the K-Wings have won two of their last three games. Yannick Carpentier leads the K-Wings in scoring with 29 points. Carpentier had a splendid month of December scoring 17 points. The forward needs just two points to reach 100 for his career.
The Fort Wayne Komets start 2005 with the best winning percentage of any team in the United Hockey League. The Komets also possess the most prolific offense in the UHL. Fort Wayne has lit the lamp a league best 138 times this season. The Komets have also saved their best hockey for home, as the Komets are an impressive 13-3-0 at the Allan County Memorial Coliseum.

Besides being close to a milestone, Carpentier will also try to extend his point streak. Coming into the today's game Carpentier has registered a point in each of his last three games.
