Rockford IceHogs News Release
St. Charles, Mis.- After a disappointing New Year ¬â¢s Eve debut at the Rockford MetroCentre on Friday night, the Rockford IceHogs kicked off the 2005 portion of the United Hockey League schedule on a more positive note, knocking off the Missouri River Otters 5-2 at the Family Arena on Saturday. Rockford broke the game open with three goals in the third period.
The IceHogs scored the games first two goals. Winger J.F. Dufour blasted home the first one at 14:04 of the first period after fellow winger Terry Harrison set him up for a breakaway and the 1-0 lead. In the second frame, defenseman Rod Aldoff was set perfectly by Dufour, and the blue-liner tipped in his second tally of the season past Otters goalie Jason Tapp at 3:39.
Missouri responded with two quick goals to tie the contest. Just after a power play expired, center Lars Petterson flipped in a marker at 6:20 to cut the Hogs lead to one-goal. Then just 1:08 later, winger Cole Bassett beat Hogs goaltender Michel Robinson to tie the game 2-2.
But the third period belonged to Rockford, and they would pull away to pick up their 22 win of the season. Aldoff fired home his second goal of the night 37 seconds into the third frame to give the IceHogs the lead back. Center J.C. Ruid then finished off the Hogs scoring to seal the game. Ruid wristed in his first of the night at 7:53, then added an empty netter at 19:05.
Robinson turned away 24 Otters shots in the win and the Hogs power play finished 0-for-5. Defenseman Steve Pelletier registered his first career multi-point game with two assists. Center Olivier Proulx also had two helpers, while Dufour had two assists to go along with his goal.
Next Home Game: Sunday January 2 vs. Missouri River Otters. The puck drops at 3:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Otters close out a home-and-home series in Rockford. Sunday is a Family Four Pack Day. Fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for only $40!
