
Reininger Picks up NYP League Best 8th Save

Norwich, CT "" The Connecticut Tigers (26-31) defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds (29-25) by a score of 5-3 Saturday night at Dodd Stadium. The Tigers received several contributions on the offensive end as 3B Javier Azcona (1-4) had a pair of RBI's including the first run batted in on a line drive single in the second inning that scored 1B Pat Leyland (3-4) to take an early 1-0 lead. Leyland also a contribution with his three hits and two runs scored in the game.
The Tigers offense came to life Saturday night after a dismal performance from Friday night. The offense exploded for five runs on eleven hits. Eight of the nine Tigers had at least one hit in the game. Every batter though reached base at least once in the game. C Duncan McAlpine (2-3) had a good night at the plate with pair of hits including a double and one run scored. DH Zach Kirksey (1-5), LF Kasey Coffman (1-4), and 2B Steven Negron (0-2) each had an RBI in the game for the Tigers.
The Tigers also had a strong pitching performance. Starter RHP Buck Farmer picked up a no decision after pitching three scoreless innings while giving up one hit and struck out four batters. Farmer was on pinpoint with his location and was able to shut down the IronBirds in his three innings of work. The Tigers used five pitchers to pick up the 5-3 win as they allowed together three runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out 10 batters. RHP Zac Reininger (8) picked up his league lead eighth save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth while striking out two of the three batters he faced.
LF Sam Kimmel (1-4) was the highlight for the IronBirds as he ripped a line drive solo home run over the right field wall in the seventh inning that cut the Tigers lead to one run at 4-3. It was Kimmel's first home run of the season. 2B Jeff Kemp (1-2) and CF George Barber (1-3) each added an RBI single.
The Tigers and the IronBirds wrap up their three-game series tomorrow night at Dodd Stadium at 4:05 p.m. LHP Joe Mantiply (0-1, 2.36) takes the mound for the Tigers. Starting for IronBirds RHP Alex Santana (1-1, 2.39). Tomorrow night is Sunday Funday! Fun in the sun at Dodd Stadium!
