Ontario Reign News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (24-11-2-4), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, overcame a one-goal deficit on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (18-19-2-4) in front of a crowd of 3,464 on Tuesday evening at Rabobank Arena.
Both teams played to a scoreless first period, but the opening frame was punctuated by a spectacular point-blank save from Joe Cannata on Gabriel Levesque while the Reign faced a five-on-three penalty kill.
The Condors opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the middle period, as Jordan Kremyr took the puck down the length of the ice and beat Cannata blocker-side.
Ontario answered on the power-play when Matt White took a feed from Kyle Bigos at the right circle and fired a wrist shot past Frans Tuohimaa at 11:15. Matt Register picked up the secondary assist.
In the third, the Reign gained their first lead of the night when Register received a feed from Judd Blackwater and unloaded a low slap-shot into the net at 10:30. David Rutherford earned the additional helper.
After the Bakersfield attempted to even the score by pulling Tuohimaa for an extra attacker, Patrick Holland sealed the outcome in Ontario's favor with an empty-netter at 19:26, with Blackwater and Rutherford assisting
Cannata earned the win with 30 saves; Tuohimaa took the loss with 18 stops.
Three Stars:
1. ONT - Matt Register
2. BAK - Jordan Kremyr
3. ONT - Joe Cannata
