Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, could not contain Cam Reid and the Reading Royals, who came away with a 7-2 win at the Ford Center. Reid recorded a hat trick to send Evansville's record to 11-25-4-2 (28 points) as the IceMen remain 11 points out of a playoff position.

The Royals found the net first. Reid launched a wrister into the back of the net from just inside the blue line to put the Royals up 1-0 midway through the first period.

Five minutes later, the IceMen answered. A blocked shot found the stick of the debuting Thomas Frazee. The newcomer blasted it into the back of the net to tie the game at one. Robin Soudek earned his first point with the IceMen on the play. Patrick Kennedy earned the other assist.

Reading responded quickly. The Royals scored twice in 26 seconds to chase Chris Driedger. Reid's second goal of the game gave the Royals a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Early in the second period, Reading tacked on another one. Sean Wiles stole the puck in Evansville's zone and scored on a breakaway to give the Royals a 4-1 lead.

The IceMen fought back seven minutes into the period. Frazee forced a turnover behind the net. Robin Soudek intercepted a pass and zipped a pass to Patrick Kennedy right in front of the net. Kennedy's ninth of the season cut the Royal lead to two entering the final period.

Reading scored three times in the final period. Reid completed the hat trick. Olivier Labelle and Jordan Heywood also scored to give the Royals a 7-2 victory.

With 10 seconds remaining in the game, Kevin Harvey crushed Heywood into the boards. Hughesman confronted Harvey, who pummeled the Reading forward with punches that sent him to the ice.

After the officials separated Harvey and Hughesman, Harvey then picked a fight with Connor Knapp. The Reading goaltender had time to get the blocker off before officials intervened. Harvey finished with a season high,19 penalty minutes, all of which came on that play with 10 seconds left in regulation.

The IceMen will continue their six game home stand with a pair of games against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Evansville defeated the Gladiators on opening night.
