Seattle Reign FC News Release

SEATTLE (July 31, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper and University of Oregon alumna Abigail Steele.

Steele will provide additional roster depth as goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer recovers from a foot injury sustained during the 3-0 win over the Portland Thorns on July 26.

Per NWSL roster rules, if a team has less than two available goalkeepers, they will be able to add a goalkeeper to its Roster until its goalkeeper is back to full participation with the Team. This must be done within the Salary Cap.

Reign FC recently announced the signing of goalkeeper Caroline Stanley following news that goalkeeper Hope Solo would need time to recover from an injury during her time with the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) during the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada. The World Cup champion sustained a knee injury during the tournament and is being evaluated on a game-by-game basis to assess her fitness.

"We are in a position where Haley and Hope are unavailable to play so we've utilized the goalkeeper replacement rule in the league and signed Abigail," head coach and general manager Laura Harvey said. "We had our eye on Abigail at the draft earlier this year. Thankfully we are in a position where we can get her signed."

Steele, 21, is a 2014 graduate from the University of Oregon where she played four seasons with the ducks. In her senior season with the Ducks, she allowed eighteen goals and earned Pac-12 honorable mention selection.

The Santa Rosa, Calif. native finished her career at Oregon first in goals allowed average (1.14) and shutouts (17) as well as third in school history for goalkeeper wins (21) and saves (307). Abigail Steele
