Sky Blue FC News Release
Piscataway, N.J. (Friday, July 31, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (3-6-5, 14 points) returns to National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) action on Saturday night, hosting the Western New York Flash (4-7-3, 15 points) at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. The New Jersey club will be looking to extend its season-high unbeaten streak to four matches in the contest, with kickoff slated for 7:00 PM.
"We are looking to keep our momentum going, as well as continuing to put away our chances," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "Western New York is a difficult match-up. They are a very young and athletic team. Both of our clubs understand how important the situation is on Saturday night, and we know that Western New York has a lot of fight left in them. We are looking forward to a hard-fought game where both teams need three points."
Sky Blue FC is coming off its biggest win of the 2015 NWSL season, defeating the Boston Breakers at home last Saturday night, 3-1. The New Jersey side raced off to a 3-0 advantage in just the 52nd minute of this encounter, and it marked the second consecutive match that Sky Blue FC scored three goals in a game. Kelley O'Hara led the way with a first half brace, first finishing a Katy Freels feed in the 13th minute before scoring a second tally in the 36th minute that was distributed to her from Australian striker Sam Kerr. The final notch for Sky Blue FC occurred in the 52nd minute when Kerr put away an assist from midfielder Hayley Haagsma.
The Flash enters Saturday night amid a five-game winless streak. Their most recent contest was this past Wednesday night when they were defeated at home by Portland Thorns FC, 2-0. The last time that Western New York and Sky Blue FC played was at Sahlen's Stadium on Sunday, July 19th, when the two clubs competed to a 3-3 draw.
Individual and group tickets for Saturday's match are on sale now and can be purchased online at tickets.skybluefc.com or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
