Seattle Reign FC News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Reign FC has signed defender Steph Cox through the end of the 2019 season, the club announced today. Cox, who began the season as an assistant coach, was signed as a National Team Replacement Player on May 31.
"I may have been initially surprised when Steph asked me about playing again, but she's shown everyone that she can still get it done," Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. "Anytime you can add such a veteran presence that is able to play at her level, it's a good day as a coach."
Cox, 33, has made four appearances, including three starts for Reign FC this season. Her debut against the Washington Spirit on June 15 marked her 50th NWSL appearance.
"I am so excited to be back on the field for my club," Cox said. "I didn't envision signing a contract for the season at the beginning of the year, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to follow my heart. I have found such joy being on the field with the rest of my teammates and doing something that I know and love. I am so motivated to impact the team for the rest of the season so we can win the league championship."
The club returns home for its World Cup Homecoming Match on Sunday, July 28 against the Chicago Red Stars at 1:00 p.m. PT.
