Lancaster Stormers News Release
Lancaster's head of steam was no match for Dan Reichert on Wednesday evening.
The Bridgeport right-hander shut down the Barnstormers on four hits as the Bluefish snapped the club's six-game winning streak in an 8-0 victory at Harbor Yard.
Despite the loss, the Barnstormers remained within five games of Newark for the final playoff berth in the Atlantic League.
Reichert (12-8) fired his third complete game shutout of the season, holding the Barnstormers to the four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Three of the Lancaster hits were doubles, including one by newcomer Jason Cooper, who pinch hit for Lloyd Turner in the eighth inning.
Lancaster's biggest threat against the former KC Royal was in the seventh when Aaron Herr torched a double into the left center alley and moved to third on a single to right by Matt Watson. Reichert got out of the inning with a strikeout of Ryan Mulhern.
Bridgeport reached spot starter Ricardo Gomez (4-2) right from the start. Adam Greenberg lined a single to right on a 3-1 pitch leading off the game. After Tyrone Pendergrass lined to center for the first out, but Luis Lopez doubled down the right field line, driving Greenberg in from first. Brandon Sing connected for a double to left center and a 2-0 lead. Jesse Hoorelbeke blooped a single to right, putting runners at the corners. Luis Rodriguez produced a third run with a single lined into right field.
Gomez found trouble in the second inning, walking Tim Johnson to start the inning. Greenberg bunted into a force play. Pendergrass walked, moving Greenberg ahead to second. Lopez, with the second of his four hits, singled to right to load the bases. Sing extended the lead to 4-0 with a single to left that scored Greenberg. Pendergrass was cut down at the plate by Lloyd Turner, and Gomez fanned Jesse Hoorelbeke to escape.
RBI singles by Lopez and Hoorelbeke added two more runs in the fourth, chasing Gomez. Todd Davison beat out a single to the hole at shortstop, and Johnson blooped a single into right, starting the fifth against Joanniel Montero. Greenberg ripped a double down the first base line to scored Davison. Johnson came across on a sacrifice fly to center by Lopez, capping the night's scoring.
The Barnstormers and Bluefish conclude their series Thursday evening at 7:05. Trey Hodges (3-4) gets the start for Lancaster while Gary Knotts (5-8) will take the hill for Bridgeport. Following the Thursday night game, the Barnstormers will head home to face the Long Island Ducks in a critical three-game weekend series. Fireworks will follow the games on Friday and Saturday.
