Regular Season Finale Cancelled in Salem

SALEM, Va. - Sunday's regular season finale between the Carolina Mudcats and Salem Red Sox was cancelled due to rain at Carillion Clinic Field in Salem, Va. The cancellation was the second straight in the series as Saturday's game was also cancelled due to rain. Neither game will be made up.

Sunday's game did start but was stopped with Red Sox leading 3-0 through the third. Play was halted after the third and before the fifth while falling short of official game consideration. All game stats will be stricken from the record. The cancellation was Carolina's fifth overall this season.

Following the lost final weekend in Salem, the Carolina League North second half champion Mudcats finished the 2023 regular season schedule first in the North in the second half at 39-25 and first in the overall standings at 72-55.

The playoff-bound Mudcats next play the Down East Wood Ducks in Game 1 of the best of 3, Carolina League North Division series on Tuesday, September 12 at Five County Stadium. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Zebulon, N.C. Tickets start at $10.00 and are on sale now at carolinamudcats.com/playoffs.

The best of 3 series will continue in Kinston, N.C. at Grainger Stadium on Thursday, September 14, and Friday, September 15 if necessary.
