Regular Season Concludes in Rapid City as Grizzlies Play for Division Championship

The Situation

The Grizzlies (38-26-3-3) enter the week in a three-way tie for first place in the West Division as they have 82 points as does Idaho and Colorado. The Steelheads and Eagles each make up a game in hand on Utah this week as the Steelheads play in Rapid City Tuesday and host Missouri Friday and Saturday. Colorado plays in Alaska Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Wins, not including shootout wins, would break any ties.

Coming In Hot

The Grizzlies are 6-2-0-1 in their last nine games as they go into the final weekend of the regular season.

Playoffs

The Grizzlies officially clinched their ninth-straight playoff appearance in Friday's 6-2 win over Alaska. Utah is tied with South Carolina for the second longest consecutive playoff streak in the ECHL. Idaho has qualified for the playoffs in 13-straight ECHL seasons.

Final Attendance

The Grizzlies finished the regular season with an average attendance of 5,095 fans-per-game, their largest total since the 2003-2004 season. They currently rank seventh in the 28-team ECHL in average attendance and lead the West Division in average attendance.

Balanced Scoring

The Grizzlies had six different players score goals and six players record multiple point games as they beat Alaska 6-2 Friday and 2-0 on Saturday. Bryan Moore recorded multiple-points in each game and had one goal and three assists on the weekend. Rookie defenseman Phil Pietroniro led Utah with a plus-two in each game for a plus-four on the weekend.

Goal Scoring

With Barry Almeida having 26 goals and Alex Krushelnyski having 25 goals it marks the the second-straight year and the first time since 2009-2010 that the Grizzlies have had two players score 25 or more goals in two-straight seasons.

In Goal

Mark Owuya (7-5-0-1) authored a 33 save shutout Saturday after stopping 26 of 28 in Friday's 6-2 win after Ryan Faragher got recalled to San Diego Thursday. Owuya has a 2.51 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage this season. He is 5-1-0-1 at Maverik Center where he has allowed two goals or less in six of seven Maverik Center starts.

This Weekend's Matchup

Utah is 5-3-1-0 against Rapid City this season and they have won three-straight games against the Rush going back to January 29 by a combined total of 14-6.
