Reegie Corona joins Trenton from RiverDogs

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced that INF Reegie Corona has been added to the Thunder roster from the Charleston River Dogs (Low A-South Atlantic League).

Corona hit .292 in 96 games for Charleston with three home runs and 40 RBI. He also has 26 stolen bases. The 5'11'' 160 pound switch hitter batted .358 at home in 49 games with three home runs and 28 RBI. He hit .385 in 14 games during the month of June. He had a six-hit game during an 18-inning contest against Rome on May 20th. Corona finished the game six-for-seven with two RBI and one run scored.

Corona has played primarily at second base, but also seen action at first base, shortstop, third base, left field and right field. He was selected to the South Atlantic League All-Star Team but had to miss the game because of injury. Corona spent time on the disabled list with a shoulder injury from May 23rd through June 14th.

During 2005, he spent most of the season with the Staten Island Yankees (New York-Penn League). In 72 games for the 2005 New York-Penn League Champions, he hit .227 with 20 RBI and nine stolen bases. Corona had the game winning hit in the second game (best-of-three series) of the New York-Penn League Championship series against the Auburn Doubledays. He also appeared in three games for the Tampa Yankees (High-A Florida State League).

The 19-year-old native of Caracas, Venezuela was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees July 2nd, 2003.

The Thunder start a three-game series against the Erie Sea Wolves tonight at Waterfront Park. Game time is 7:05 PM.
