
Reds Swept in Saturday Night Twin Bill

GREENEVILLE, TN - The Greeneville Reds (17-25) were swept in their doubleheader against the Pulaski Yankees (29-14) Saturday night. Pulaski won both games 5-2 in extra innings. RHP Jake Gilbert and RHP Randy Wynne both tossed quality starts, but both took no-decisions Saturday.
Anthony Volpe doubled on the first pitch of game one, moved to third on Antonio Cabello's single, and scored the games first run on Roberto Chirinos' RBI ground out. Borinquen Mendez tripled on the first pitch in the third, and scored on Chirinos' RBI-double to extend the Yankees lead to 2-0.
Yankees RHP Reid Anderson carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of game one, but surrendered a leadoff single to Tyler Callihan. Callihan stole second with one out, and scored on Danny Lantigua's RBI-triple. Lantigua scored the tying run on Carlos Reina's RBI-single.
Mendez started the eighth inning at second base, and moved to third on a bunt. Mendez scored the go-ahead run on Ca- bello's RBI-double. Chirinos followed with an RBI-double, and scored on Gustavo Campero's RBI-triple.
RHP Mitch Spence (W, 1-1) struck out four over two perfect innings for his first win of the season. RHP Matt Gill (L, 1-1) took the loss. Gill allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits over two innings with three strikeouts.
Chirinos led off game two with a single on the first pitch, and moved to second on Cabello's single. Chirinos went to third on a fly out, then stole home on a double steal to put Pulaski on the board. Danielito Remy doubled with one out in the third, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Ivan Johnson's RBI infield single.
Campero opened the seventh with a single, and advanced to second on Allan Cerda's throwing error. He scored the go- ahead run after back-to-back wild pitches from RHP Tyler Gibson (L, 0-1).
After RHP Tyler Johnson (W, 2-0) retired the first two in the bottom of the seventh, Lantigua extended the game with a double. Justin Gomez hit an RBI-single on the next pitch to tie the game.
Similar to game one, Pulaski scored three in the top of the eighth. Jake Farrell scored the go-ahead run on Raul Juarez's error at first. Saul Torres' two-out, two-run single extended the Yankees lead to 5-2.
Johnson earned the win in relief. He allowed one run on two hits over two innings. Gibson took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) in two innings with a strikeout.
The Reds and Yankees conclude their series at Pioneer Park Sunday evening. RHP Juan Abril (1-4, 5.28) will start for Greeneville against LHP Ryan Anderson (0-0, 4.30), with first pitch coming at 5 PM. Sunday at Pioneer Park is Reds Rookie Sunday presented by South State Contractors.
