Kingsport, TN - The Kingsport Mets continued their winning ways at home with a 5-4 victory over the Burlington Royals Saturday evening.
Burlington got off to a quick start and took a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of first inning runs and then an RBI-single in the second.
Kingsport would then chip away with a run in the second and third innings. Tanner Murphy homered for the second consecutive day and then Scott Ota knocked in a run with an RBI-single.
Two innings later, the Mets would take their first lead of the day with a two-run fifth.
Anthony Dirocie got the party started with a leadoff triple and would score on a throw down to second when Francisco Alvarez advanced on a wild pitch. Alvarez was a cog in the Kingsport offense tonight, going 3-3 with three singles and a walk.
Two hitters later Ota again came through with an RBI-double to give Kingsport a 4-3 lead.
The Royals would answer with a run in the seventh, but Kingsport would respond with a Cristopher Pujols RBI-single in the eighth to plate Ota with the game winning run.
Nate Peden picked up the win with two innings of relief, and Josh Hejka picked up his third save of the season.
The Mets will go for the sweep in the series finale tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
