Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: The RedHawks continue their eight-game homestand and open a four-game series against Round Rock at 7:05 p.m. Oklahoma City and Round Rock enter the game tied for first in the PCL American Southern Division. Post-game fireworks will be presented by Oklahoma Blood Institute.

Last Game: A walk-off RBI single from catcher Carlos Perez in the 12th inning scored Brandon Laird for a 9-8 win against Iowa Thursday in Bricktown. The RedHawks seemed to be in control early on as a five-run bottom of the fourth gave them a 6-0 lead. The score stood at 8-4 with two outs in the eighth when Iowa's Dave Sappelt hit a three-run homer to cut the RedHawks lead to one. With one out in the ninth, Steve Clevenger's RBI double tied the game. Niether team really threatened to score in extras, until Perez lined a 3-2 pitch from Marcus Hatley (1-1) into right-center field to score Laird from second base. Oklahoma City starting pitcher Brad Peacock retired the first 15 batters he faced, before Iowa broke through in the sixth inning. He went on to allow one run, two hits and struck out four in six innings. Eric Berger (3-1) ended up with the win for the RedHawks after tossing a scoreless top of the 12th.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Ross Seaton is scheduled to make his first career start against Round Rock...He was on the mound last Saturday in Omaha when the game was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain. His stats will not be official until the game is resumed and completed on July 23...Seaton has posted wins in two of his last three starts for the RedHawks, but suffered a loss in his last official outing June 2 at Albuquerque. He allowed four runs and seven hits, including five for extra bases, walked three and struck out one in the game...Seaton has held opponents to three runs in three of his last five starts...He has allowed nine total earned runs in his last three outings after giving up 29 earned runs in his first seven starts of 2013 and opponents are hitting .267 in his last three starts...His last home start was back on May 11 against Salt lake, when he picked up a loss against the Bees (4 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K). He's allowed 17 runs and 17 hits over 9.2 innings at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark this season.

Against the Express: 2013: 2-2 2012: 10-6 All-time: 70-61 In OKC: 36-32

The RedHawks and Express split a four-game series in Oklahoma City April 16-19...The RedHawks hit .309 as a team in the series. Marc Krauss went 6-for-12 with three doubles, and five RBI...Oklahoma City won 10 of 16 meetings with the Express in 2012, including six of eight in Bricktown...14 of the last 16 games between the teams have been decided by three runs or less, including seven by one or two runs...The RedHawks have not lost the season series in five of the last six years...Round Rock is once again led by Bobby Jones, the legendary RedHawks skipper who compiled 595 wins and five division titles over eight seasons. He also managed the team when they were the 89ers in 1993-1994.

Extra, Extra: With last night's win, the RedHawks improved to 4-1 in extra-inning games. It was their second-longest game this season in terms of both innings (12) and time (4:24). Their 10-8 loss against New Orleans on April 25 lasted 15 innings and clocked in at 4:54.

Carlos' Coup: Carlos Perez's game-winning RBI single gave the RedHawks their third walk-off win of the season. He batted in a season-high three runs in the win, including two on a double in the bottom of the fourth inning. The 22-year-old catcher is hitting .370 with six RBI over seven games this month.

To the Max: Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell started his rehab appearance last night by going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Before joining the RedHawks, Maxwell had been rehabbing with Double-A Corpus Christi, where he went 1-for-21 over six games. He's been on the Disabled List with a fractured left hand since April 24 after being hit by a pitch by Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners.

Runnin' RedHawks of OKC: The RedHawks stole four bases last night to bring their league-leading season total to 91 -- 22 more than Albuquerque, the next-closest team. The total also is the highest in all of Triple-A. Jonathan Villar stole two bases Thursday for his seventh multi-steal game of the season. He leads the league with 24 swipes and his total is tied for second-most in all of Triple-A.

The Laird Up There: During last night's 3-for-4 performance, Brandon Laird set a couple of season highs in runs (3) and walks (2) while tying his season high for hits. He has had a multi-hit game in three of his last six contests. Laird also leads the team with eight RBI in June.

Booming Brett: After a 1-for-12 series in Omaha, Brett Wallace hit safely in all four games against Iowa, going 7-for-16. He also reached base safely in 11 of 20 plate appearances. Wallace leads the RedHawks with a .314 batting average and is tied with Marc Krauss for the team lead in both home runs (9) and multi-RBI games (9). He has 33 RBI this season and trails Krauss by just one for the team lead.

Bullpen Bullied: The seven runs allowed by the bullpen last night was the second-most given up in a game this season. RedHawks relievers have allowed eight runs twice, most recently in a 9-3 loss against Salt Lake on May 12. Like last night, the starting pitcher exited that game after allowing just one run over six innings.

Double Play Dearth: The RedHawks have turned just one double play in their last eight games. Even with the recent drought, they still rank third in the league with 69 double plays turned this season.

Opening Acts: The RedHawks are 6-11 this season in series openers, including 3-5 at home.
