Tucson Padres News Release

Chris Heston tossed a complete-game shutout for the Fresno Grizzlies in a 2-0 victory over the Tucson Padres Thursday. The shutout was the sixth time this season that the Padres were held scoreless in a game. It was Fresno's first complete-game shutout since Barry Zito's on 6/21/2011.

After four scoreless innings to start the game, Gary Brown put Fresno on the board with a solo home run into the left field bleachers. The home run was the sixth of the season and Brown's third of the series. The Grizzlies added an insurance run in the eighth when Johnny Monell hit a sacrifice fly to left bringing home Carter Jurica.

The Padres had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, but Heston was able to strike out the final batter to pick up his sixth win of the season. The right-hander struck out nine batters in the first complete-game shutout of his career. Heston allowed five scattered hits and did not allow a Padre to reach third base until the ninth. Tucson starter Burch Smith (2-1) was charged with the loss despite allowing only one run in six innings of work.
