
RedHawks Remain Winless after 4-0 Loss to Joplin

FARGO, N.D. -- It was a pitcher's duel at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday afternoon, and the Joplin Blasters prevailed over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-0 in front of 4,139 fans at the annual School Day game.
Veteran Brandon Mann took the mound for Fargo-Moorhead and had a stellar outing. In 8.0 innings, Mann threw 108 pitches, gave up six hits, two runs (both earned), while walking one and striking out two. Manager Doug Simunic made one visit to the mound in the eighth frame, typically indicating a pitching change, but chose to leave the left-hander in the game.
Jorge Martinez was solid for the Blasters. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout baseball, allowed four hits, walked two and struck out four. Martinez has now thrown 11.0 innings of scoreless baseball in his two starts for Joplin this season.
It was a scoreless contest up until the sixth inning, when Maikol Gonzalez crossed home plate courtesy of Yasser Gomez's RBI single giving the Blasters a 1-0 advantage. Joplin added another run in the eighth frame on an RBI double from Jake Taylor scoring Gomez to make it 2-0.
Jorge Martinez earned the win for Joplin, while Brandon Mann took the loss for the RedHawks.
Fargo-Moorhead drops to 0-6 on the season while Joplin improves to 3-2.The two teams will be back at Newman Outdoor Field tomorrow night for the final game of this three-game series. First pitch set for 7:02 p.m.
