Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The RedHawks' bats ignited some pyrotechnics early on fireworks night at Newman Outdoor Field in a 9-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes to guarantee at least a series split against the North Division rivals. Fargo-Moorhead moves into a tie for second in the North Division with Gary SouthShore, one half game behind the St. Paul Saints.
RedHawks' starter Sebastian Kessay bounced back after giving up a leadoff home run to give up just three hits over the next 26 batters he faced in a seven-inning win. Kessay struck out four and walked two while giving up the single run for his third win of the season. He is 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA in eight games this season.
The RedHawks did their damage in the third inning when they put up five runs on four hits to take a commanding 5-1 lead. The highlight of the inning came when Leo Pina crushed a homer to the left center field, the deepest part of Newman Outdoor Field, scoring Maikol Gonzalez and Brennan Metzger. Tim Colwell had an RBI triple earlier in the inning as well.
Fargo-Moorhead added on four runs in the sixth to take the eight-run lead that would last through the end. Charlie Valerio, Devan Ahart, and Yhoxian Medina each had an RBI in the inning.
The game was on pace until a fight broke out in the bottom of the eighth inning after Winnipeg's Cameron McVey hit Leo Pina with an intentional pitch. Both benches cleared and the game was stopped for nearly ten minutes before play resumed. McVey and Pina were both ejected following the altercation.
The RedHawks and Goldeyes will continue their four-game series tomorrow night at 6:00 PM at Newman Outdoor Field. First 1,000 fans will receive a replica Chris Coste jersey, thanks to Coca-Cola.
