Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The Oklahoma City RedHawks lost 8-4 to the Memphis Redbirds in the opening game of a four game set at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark Tuesday evening. The RedHawks held a 4-1 lead after one inning, but the Redbirds plated the next seven runs to send Oklahoma City to its fourth straight loss.

Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and Oklahoma City quickly countered. Julio Borbon singled and scored on a base hit by Royce Huffman. With Esteban German and Huffman on base, Emerson Frostad hit his first home run of the season, a shot to straightaway center to build the RedHawks lead to 4-1.

The Redbirds halved the deficit with a run in the third and took a 5-4 lead off Oklahoma City starter Josh Rupe in the top of the sixth. Joe Mather doubled, Allen Craig singled, and Bryan Anderson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rupe proceeded to walk in a run and then allowed a single to Mark Shorey that drove in a pair before Hoffpaiur was tagged for the final out of the inning.

Memphis added three runs in the top of the eighth to cap the scoring, though Oklahoma City did threaten in the bottom of the ninth. The RedHawks loaded the bases on two walks and a hit, but Jess Todd came on to strike out Julio Borbon to end the game.

Rupe (0-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs, four of which were earned, on six hits and three walks. Clayton Mortensen (5-3) earned the win despite allowing the four run first, and Todd recoreded his 11th save. Mather finished 3-3 with a pair of runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the Redbirds offensively. Huffman had the lone multi-hit game for the RedHawks, while Frostad drove in a season-high three runs, matching his totals from his previous 14 Triple-A games this season.

Oklahoma City and Memphis will continue this series at the Brick with a 7:05 pm game Wednesday.
