A play at the plate helped the Oklahoma RedHawks beat the Nashville Sounds 6-5 Sunday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Nashville catcher Mark Johnson was thrown out at the plate on a throw from rightfielder Will Smith to second baseman Jace Brewer to catcher Nick Trzesniak for the last out of the eighth inning. Johnson's run would have tied the game six.

Earlier in the inning, Nashville rightfielder Nelson Cruz hit his second home run of the game to cut the lead to one. Two outs later, Johnson singled to center. The next batter, Chris Barnwell, hit a fly ball that was dropped by Smith. Smith then threw out Johnson trying to score from first base.

Sunday's game saw three ties and two lead changes. The last lead change occurred in the seventh inning when the RedHawks score three runs to take a 6-4 lead. After singles by shortstop Joaquin Arias and first baseman Jason Botts, centerfielder Laynce Nix came to the plate.

Nix hit a ground ball into leftfield that was misjudged by Nashville leftfielder Corey Hart. The ball rolled to the wall, allowing Arias and Botts to score and Nix to go to third. Nix scored on the next play when third baseman Jamie Burke singled him home.

Oklahoma relief pitcher Scott Feldman pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his first save of the season.

Texas' No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America, Edinson Volquez, started for Oklahoma. He went six innings and gave up four runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. He threw 120 pitches, 70 for strikes. He had a no-hitter through three innings.

Burke led the RedHawks offensively, going three-for-four with two RBIs. The RedHawks had 12 hits in the game, all singles.

Oklahoma and Nashville will meet again Monday at 7:05 p.m. at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
