HEADLINES: Burke has big night in RedHawks loss ... Volquez starts today ... Rheinecker makes MLB debut
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Last year, they were 75-69 and won the Pacific Coast League championship 3-0 over Tacoma. They have been a member of the PCL since 1998.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their eight-game homestand against Nashville. This is their 18th game of the season, 10th home game and sixth game against Nashville.
LAST GAME: Nashville scored two runs in the ninth inning to beat Oklahoma 5-3. Oklahoma starting pitcher John Wasdin went six innings and gave up no runs on three hits with four strikeouts. He retired the first seven batters he faced and had four 1-2-3 innings. Oklahoma third baseman Jamie Burke went four-for-five at the plate with two doubles and an RBI. Nashville tied the game at three with three runs in the seventh inning.
VS. NASHVILLE: The RedHawks were swept by the Sounds April 14-17 in Nashville . Nashville out-hit the RedHawks in all four games of the series and out-scored them 35-16. The RedHawks have lost seven straight games against Nashville, including the last two games of last year's playoff series.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher Edinson Volquez makes his fourth start of the year for Oklahoma. He is Texas' No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America. In his last outing, he took the loss in Oklahoma's 5-2 loss to Memphis April 18. Ben Hendrickson starts for Nashville . He went 6.1 innings and gave up five runs/four earned on three hits in Nashville 's 8-7 win over Oklahoma April 22.
CLOSE GAMES: Eight of Oklahoma 's 10 losses this season have come by four runs or less. They have two losses each of one run, two runs, three runs and four runs. Also, six of Oklahoma's seven wins have come by four runs or less, including three one-run wins.
HOME SWEET HOME: Going back to July 22 of last season, the RedHawks are 26-8 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (.765) including 1-1 in last year's playoffs against Nashville. They are 25-7 (.781) at home in regular season games since July 22.
ERUBIEL DURAZO: In his last four games, DH Erubiel Durazo is 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate with a home run and four RBIs. He was batting .167 with four RBIs entering his April 19 game at Memphis and is now batting .279 with eight RBIs.
HEART OF THE ORDER: The 3-4-5 batters in the Oklahoma lineup are 15-for-38 (.395) with seven RBIs in Oklahoma's last three games.
HOME RUNS: The last eight RedHawk home runs have been solo homers. Six of those led off an inning. The last two-run homer by a RedHawk was April 12 against Round Rock when Will Smith hit one in the ninth inning. The RedHawks have no three-run home runs or grand slams this year.
CROOKED NUMBERS: The RedHawks have not scored more than two runs in an inning since the first inning April 15 at Nashville. They have gone 71 innings without scoring more than two runs in an inning.
QUICK START: The RedHawks have scored 32 of their 77 runs this season in the first three innings (42 percent). They've scored 23 runs in innings four through six, 21 in innings seven through nine and one run in the 13th inning.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: DH Erubiel Durazo's single in the second inning last night off Zach Jackson was his first hit against a left-handed pitcher this season (1-for-12) ... P John Rheinecker made his major league debut in a start for Texas last night, going four innings and giving up two runs on seven hits.
