Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Walter Young belted two solo home runs and Justin Leone clubbed a three-run shot to lead the Portland Beavers to a 7-4 victory over the Salt Lake Bees before 4,724 Sunday afternoon at PGE Park.

Leone's clout, his eighth of the season, reversed a one-run deficit in the bottom of the fifth, and Young helped put the game away with solo homers in the sixth and eighth innings; both had three RBIs.

Terrmel Sledge singled, drew two walks and scored twice in his second game with the Beavers (9-8). Paul McAnulty started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single and later added a double as he extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Mike Thompson improved to 2-0 in his fourth start of the season. He struck out six and gave up four runs on five hits over seven innings. Brian Sikorski got his third save in as many opportunities.

Dustin Moseley (3-1) worked five innings in the loss for the Bees (10-7).

The teams traded leads through the first four-plus innings.

Sledge and Leone singled to start a two-out rally in the bottom of the first. Sledge scored from second on McAnulty's sharp single to center, giving the Beavers their first lead of the series.

Thompson retired the first nine batters, but the Bees broke through in the fourth. Erick Aybar led off with a single and scored on a double to left-center by Howie Kendrick. A groundout advanced Kendrick to third to set up a go-ahead sac fly off the bat of Dallas McPherson.

McAnulty doubled to lead off the bottom of the fourth, moved to third on a fly out and scored to tie things at 2-2 on a sac fly by Young.

Ryan Budde's solo home run, his second of the season, put the Bees back up in the fifth.

With the Beavers clinging to a 5-3 lead in the sixth, Aybar tripled off the wall in right-center and scored on an RBI double from Kendrick.
