RH Guillermo Moscoso (6-3, 4.52) vs. LH Andy Van Hekken (6-6, 4.31)
TONIGHT: The RedHawks open an 8-game homestand with the first of a 4-game series with the Round Rock Express. OKC brings a 4-game losing streak into tonight's action, having allowed 3 tie-breaking runs in the eighth inning last night in a 5-2 loss in Memphis. The Redbirds swept OKC in the 4-game series, the RedHawks' second losing sweep of the season (Fresno, May 15-18). OKC has swept an opponent once, going 4-0 against New Orleans at home June 15-17. OKC went 2-7 on a 9-game trip to Iowa and Memphis. The RedHawks have won 6 of 8 from Round Rock. OKC leads the American South Division by 1 game over Albuquerque, 3.5 over New Orleans and 11 over Round Rock.
HARDEN STRIKES OUT 10: Rangers rehabber Rich Harden did not get a decision while allowing a pair of unearned runs and striking out 10 in 6 innings last night in rehab start No. 4 (strained left gluteal muscle). Harden's 10-strikeout performance comes 3 games after Michael Kirkman fanned 11 Redbirds in Saturday's doubleheader opener. The RedHawks had gone more than 2 years (since May 17, 2008, when Robinson Tejeda whiffed 11 Redbirds) without a double-digit strikeout game until Kirkman and Harden's efforts in Memphis.
MULTIPLE-RUN LEADS LOST IN 2 STRAIGHT: In the first 101 games of the season, the RedHawks have lost 10 times after holding a 2-run lead or more. On Sunday, OKC failed to hold a 6-0 lead in the fifth inning to fall 7-6 in the largest comeback loss of the season. Previously, the largest blown lead was a 4-0 advantage in New Orleans June 23, when the Zephyrs came back to win 8-4. On April 27, the RedHawks led Memphis 5-2 through 5 innings and lost 9-5. On May 2, New Orleans overhauled a 3-0 OKC lead through 5 innings to eventually win 8-7. On 6 occasions, including last night, the RedHawks lost when owning a 2-run lead at some stage.
BOGGS ON BASE: Brandon Boggs owns a 25-game on-base streak dating to June 21. He has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 48 starts since May 24, the only break in the streak being a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 63 and 10th in on-base percentage at .401.
BROWN'S STREAK AT 10: Matt Brown has hit safely in 10 straight games, going 13-for-38 (.342) with 1 homer and 5 RBIs. Brown's streak matches the second-best by a RedHawk this year, joining 10-game streaks by Ryan Garko and Chris Davis. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has the longest hitting streak by a RedHawk this season, 16 games, from April 21-May 11.
ROLE REVERSAL: OKC won 6 of the first 7 against Memphis, coming within a series finale loss of sweeping each of the first 2 series, but the Redbirds took 8 of the last 9 in the season series, which Memphis won 9-7.
TOPS IN ERA: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.78. Iowa is second at 3.89. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (63) in Triple-A, but allowed 10 home runs in 9 games on the trip that ended last night.
ERROR UPDATE: After playing their first set of consecutive errorless games since June 16 on Saturday and Sunday, the RedHawks made 2 errors in the third inning leading to 2 unearned runs last night.
HOLLAND TO OKC FOR REHAB: Texas lefty Derek Holland is slated to make a rehab start for the RedHawks in tomorrow's 11:05 am game at The Brick against Round Rock. Holland has been on the Rangers' DL since June 1, (retro May 31) with inflammation of the left rotator cuff. Holland later sustained a subluxation of his right knee during a fielding drill in Surprise, Ariz. Holland was OKC's opening day starter and went 4-1 with a 0.93 ERA in 6 starts before being recalled by Texas May 13. Holland, the PCL's first Pitcher of the Week this season (April 8-19) is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 5 Texas games this season, 4 of them starts.
