Reno Aces News Release
Reno hit a franchise record five home runs-including two off the bat of red-hot Brandon Allen-en route to a 14-7 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies in the series finale Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
The win clinches a series and season series victory for the Aces over the Grizzlies. Reno now has won five of its last six games.
Reno trailed 5-2 through three innings on Monday before scoring twice in the fourth, twice in the fifth, then exploding for an eight-run sixth inning. In the sixth, Reno sent 11 men to the plate, capped off with Allen's opposite field, three-run shot that put the game out of reach.
Allen hit his 16th and 17th homers of the season, and the big left-hander now has hit six long balls in the last six games. Also going deep for Reno on Monday were John Hester, Ed Rogers and Chris Rahl. Yunesky Sanchez pitched in with a three-run, pinch-hit double in the Aces eight-run sixth.
Kevin Mulvey started for Reno and scattered six runs on seven hits over five frames, but took a no-decision. Jason Urquidez (4-4) earned the win by tossing a scoreless sixth, while Rafael Rodriguez made his Aces debut Monday, surrendering one run over two innings of relief work.
Joe Paterson (3-3) took the loss for the Grizzlies in relief of starter Eric Hacker, who allowed six earned runs in 4.2 innings.
Reno takes on Las Vegas Tuesday evening in a four-game series, which continues the vaunted Silver State Diamond Challenge. With just nine games remaining between the two clubs, Reno holds a commanding 5-2 season series edge. On Tuesday, the Aces will send RHP Matt Torra (7-6, 4.18 ERA) to the mound against Las Vegas RHP Robert Ray (3-5, 4.95 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
